The Final Five Showdown has the potential to significantly alter the BFTS standings before the World Finals on Oct. 20-24, including at the top where leader Renato Nunes of Buritama, Brazil has a 218-point lead over second-place Austin Meier of Kinta, Okla.
The PBR World Champion is awarded a $1 million bonus at the PBR World Finals, the largest single payout of any bull riding event in the world.
Following Round 1 at each of the last five regular season BFTS events, each rider will be given the opportunity to ride an extra bull. The riders will also receive the points that they score during the extra ride, so if the first-place finisher scores 90 points he would receive 290 points in the BFTS standings (200 points for finishing first and 90 points for the ride score). Points earned in the bonus round do not count toward the weekend results. If a rider fails to make a qualified ride, he does not receive any points.
The 10 riders at the beginning of the Final Five Showdown are eligible to compete in all five bonus rounds even if they drop out of the Top 10. Riders who move into the Top 10 will be eligible to compete in the bonus round for all remaining events. If a Top 10 rider is unable to compete due to injury or elects not to compete, the next highest eligible rider will be selected.
The first 25 events of the 2010 BFTS season have produced 17 different winners and there are 11 riders in the Top 20 with an event win. Meier has the most wins with five while Nunes has three and Valdiron de Oliveira and rookie Silvano Alves, each have two wins. The standings lead has changed nine times and six different riders have been ranked first. J.B. Mauney has been first three different times while Meier and Nunes have each been on top twice.
