
After three rounds, Valdiron de Oliveira leads the New York City Invitational. In Round 2, he rode Flashpoint (Teague Bucking Bulls, LLC) for 89.75 points. Oliveira, who took home the title of PBR Iron Cowboy at the winner-take-all 2010 Iron Cowboy Invitational, then made the buzzer on Super Duty (Robinson/Katich/Pinnacle Bull Group) for 92.25 points in Round 3 – one of three 90-point rides in the bonus round.
Australian Ben Jones is close behind Oliveira, also covering all three bulls. Jones tied for fifth in Round 2 after staying on Segs the Juice (Jeff Robinson Bucking Bulls) for 87 points. He then rode Mr. Slim (Jeff Robinson Bucking Bulls) in Round 3, dancing his way to 90.25 points. Coming in third overall is Round 1 winner Douglas Duncan, who received the third 90-point ride of the evening – 91 points on Carrillo Cartel (4C’s/Sills/HD Bucking Bulls) in Round 3.
Sitting in fourth in the standings is North Carolina’s J.B. Mauney. He stayed on Clam Digger (Dakota Rodeo/Chad Berger/John & Lacey Struve) for 88.75 points in Round 2, then covered Highway 12 (Robinson/Mesa) for 88.5 points in Round 3. Cody Campbell closes out the leader board in fifth place, with an 87.25-point ride on Comet’s Surprise (Ohl/Bryan Payne/Do or Die Pro Rodeo) in Round 2.
The New York City Invitational continues on Sunday, with two more rounds of bull riding beginning at 1:00 p.m. ET at Madison Square Garden. Tickets are still available and can be purchased at www.Ticketmaster.com, at the arena box office or by calling (800) 732-1727.
