NEW YORK, N.Y. (October 7, 2009) - For the first time in the history of the Professional Bull Riders, Inc. (PBR), fans will have the chance to vote in one of the contenders for the 2009 PBR World Champion Bull. Additionally, there will be ten contenders for the title rather than five as in years past.
“This is a great new added element to an already exciting feature at the PBR’s World Finals,” said Jay Daugherty, Senior Vice President of Competition. “We are happy to be able to add our fans input into determining this year’s World Champion Bull.”
The top 40 bull riders in the world will vote in eight of the bulls, PBR fans will be accountable for one, and PBR’s Livestock Director will select the final of the ten bulls. Fans can vote at www.pbrnow.com, beginning on Thursday, October 8 and will end on Thursday, October 15 at 5 p.m. MST. The 2009 World Champion Bull contenders will be announced during the Mohegan Sun Invitational presented by Cooper Tires in Uncasville, Conn.
PBR has named a World Champion Bull every year since 1995. Past winners include Bodacious, owned by Andrews Rodeo Co. Inc. (1995); PBR’s only three-time Bull of the Year Little Yellow Jacket, owned by Berger/Teague/Taupin Bucking Bulls, LLC (2002-2004); Chicken on a Chain, owned by Robinson/Tedesco/Larry the Cable Guy (2007); and eight other top animal athletes. 2008 PBR World Champion Bull Bones, owned by Teague Bucking Bulls, is looking to win back-to-back titles.
The 2009 World Champion Bull will be determined by the bull that accumulates the highest total bull score during the 2009 PBR Built Ford Tough World Finals in Las Vegas. The winner will be named on Sunday, November 8 after the final round of competition.
