RENO, Nev. (September 11, 2009) - The 2009 Built Ford Tough Series (BFTS) bucked into Reno’s Lawlor Events Center for the three-performances of non-stop action. The Reno Invitational brought to you locally by Rancher’s Reserve brought the top 40 bull riders in the world to Reno, Nev., for stop no. 26 on the prestigious BFTS tour. At the end of round one, North Carolina superstar J.B. Mauney (Mooresville, N.C.) took on the bull, Slider, owned by Plummer/Larson/McKee, for 89.25 points and the round one win. He collected a check for $7,000.

Second place went to New Mexico cowboy L.J. Jenkins (Texico, N.M.) who scored 89 points after riding the bull, Red Hot of D&H Cattle Company. Mauney’s brother-in-law, Shane Proctor (Mooresville, N.C.) finished in a close third after riding Dakota Rodeo/Clay Struve’s bull, Fully Loaded, for 88.25 points while Georgia veteran Sean Willingham (Summerville, Ga.) scored 86.5 points on Scaredy Cat, owned by Dakota Rodeo/Denny Hawks. Rounding out fifth place was 2009 Daisy Rookie of the Year contender Pete Farley (Kempsey, AUS) who rode the bull, Torque of Darrin Jewell for 85.25 points.

Due to his round two win at the Jack Daniel’s Invitational in Nashville, Tenn., 2008 PBR World Champion Guilherme Marchi (Leme, SP, Brazil) was eligible to compete for the $5,000 Enterprise Rent-A-Car “Ride with the Best” bonus during round one of the Reno Invitational. Because he was bucked off of the bull, Electric Slide, before the eight second whistle, the stock contractor, McCoy Ranches & JoAnn Black, was awarded the $5,000 bonus. As the winner of round two, Mauney will be eligible for the $5,000 bonus during round two of the competition.

Tomorrow the top 40 bull riders will draft their round two bulls at the Silver Legacy Casino at 11 a.m. Round winner Canter will pick first while the other 39 bull riders follow in succession based on their round one scores. After all of the riders who received scores have selected their bulls, the riders will select their bulls based on their buck-off times with the quickest buck-off time picking last.

The Reno Invitational continues tomorrow as the world’s best bull riders compete in round two. Tune-in to VERSUS at 9 p.m. EST on Saturday, September 12, where round two will air LIVE and on Sunday, September 13 at 8 p.m. EST on VERSUS.
