Marchi and Lostroh finish second and third in Nashville; Marchi retakes second place in the World Standings.
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (August 16, 2009) - The Professional Bull Riders, Inc. (PBR) bucked into Tennessee for the 2009 Jack Daniel’s Invitational, stop no. 25 on the elite Built Ford Tough Series (BFTS) tour. Fans were treated to the 40 best bull riders in the world as they competed against top bulls from across the country at Nashville’s Sommet Center. In the end, Oregon young gun Cody Ford (Stanfield, Ore.) emerged victorious after scoring 263.75 points on three bulls, taking home the coveted event title. Ford added $38,932 to his bank account as well as valuable points to his 2009 Built Ford Tough Series World Standings. This win was not only his second in the 2009 season, but his second BFTS career victory.
"Cody (Lambert) put a great pen of bulls together for this event and I really took advantage of it,” Ford said from the winner’s circle. “As a professional athlete, I show up to win every round at every event. I also really want to thank Jack Daniel’s for sponsoring such a great event in a terrific city.”
In round one, Ford won first place with a score of 88.5 points on Jeff Robinson/Mike Tedesco/Larry the Cable Guy/Bar None’s bull, Booger Butt. He followed that up by riding his second re-ride bull, Buffalo Hump, owned by Hebert Bucking Bulls/Barry & Aliceson Bales, for 86.5 points. Ford entered the Built Ford Tough Championship Round in first place on two bulls with a total of 175 points, giving him the first pick in the PBR Bull Draft. He chose to get on the bull, Carrillo Cartel (4C’s Bucking Bulls/James Sills) and tamed him for 88.75 points, locking up the event win.
“I rode Carrillo Cartel last year,” Ford stated. “He tries hard and is a good bull so that’s why I picked him again here in the short-go.”
Taking second place in Nashville was 2008 PBR World Champion Guilherme Marchi (Leme, SP, Brazil) who scored a total of 263 points. Marchi collected a check for $15,886 and this finish moved him from third to second place in the World Standings. Current world no. 1 Kody Lostroh (Longmont, Colo.) rode for a third place finish after totaling 257.75 points, adding $9.592 to his bank account. Fourth place went to two-time World Champ Chris Shivers (Jonesville, La.) who rode two bulls for 180.5 points and collected $9,300 while Zack Brown (Santa Fe, Texas) rounded out fifth place with 179.75 points and a check for $9,030.
Nashville was stop no. 8 of 9 on the 2009 PBR Bull Team Competition. Fourteen teams have been formed, each competing for their share of a total tour purse of over $500,000 throughout the 2009 season. The team, Mac-Nett Industries, took first place and the $10,000 check after totaling 137 points, beating out second place team, Teague Bucking Bulls, LLC, who ended the event with 136.25 points and a second place check worth $5,000.
PBR will host its premiere international event on August 28-30 as twenty-five bull riders will ride for their respective countries at the 2009 PBR World Cup presented by Dickies in Barretos, Sao Paulo, Brazil. Meanwhile, the race for PBR’s million dollar world title will take the top 40 bull riders in the world to The Silver State of Nevada for stop no. 26 on the prestigious BFTS tour.
