ADA, Okla. – When the Professional Bull Riders come to town, the action is hot.

Elite cowboys and outstanding bucking beasts tend to make for memorable excitement. At the Pre-Paid Legal Services, Inc. Cord McCoy Invitational presented by Ariat and Cooper Tires, the intense energy of the PBR’s Touring Pro event is amplified by the Professional Bullfighters Daisy Protection Bullfight Tour.

Over Memorial Day weekend, three athletes with close ties to Oklahoma made the Sooner State proud, when Trevor Kastner won the bull riding portion of the competition and Dave Jantzi and Anthony Moore won the bullfight. Kastner is a rising star in bull riding who hangs his hat in Ardmore, Okla.; Moore is a veteran bullfighter from Council, Okla., and Jantzi is a two-time PBF World Championships qualifier originally from Sugar Creek, Ohio, but now living in Duncan, Okla.

Kastner, 22, rode two bulls for 174 points to win the average championship and $3,358. He edged out Reese Cates of El Dorado, Ark., who finished with 172.5 and $2,399.

“It’s great to win this event,” Kastner said. “When you come to these, the goal is to come out on top. I’m happy I did.”

Meanwhile, Jantzi and Moore – representing Team Ada Travel Stop – handled the pressure of the protection bullfight and the top teams competing at the Cord McCoy Invitational. In this field were some of the stalwarts in the sport, including two-time champion Andy Burelle of Ardmore. He teamed with Lance McIlvain of Arlington, Texas, to represent Team Ada Gaming. Others were team Team Taco Ball, Evan Allard, Vinita, Okla., and Chad Dowdy, Bristow, Okla.; and Team Mann Creek, Brian Flanders, Amarillo, Texas, and Jonathan Osten, Chelsea, Okla.

“We were very aggressive in both rounds and worked really well together,” Jantzi said. “This means a lot to me.”
