
ONTARIO, Calif. (August 29, 2010) - Austin Meier of Kinta, Okla. won his Built Ford Tough Series leading fifth event after being the only one out of the Top 40 bull riders in the world to ride all three bulls at the Bass Pro Shops Shootout presented by Cooper Tires at Citizens Business Bank Arena.
Meier earned $33,456 for the win and moved to within 218 points of leader Renato Nunes of Buritama, Brazil. Meier won the event with 257 points after riding Braveheart (Judd Lefew/D-M) for 88.75 points in the championship round and scoring 81.75 points in Round 2 on Bando’s Wild & Wreckless (Dakota Rodeo/Chad Berger/Clay Struve). His other victories came at Winston-Salem, N.C., Kansas City, Mo., Albuquerque, N.M. and Wichita, Kan.
Chris Shivers of Jonesville, La. finished second with 174.75 points, including a weekend-high 89 points to win Round 2 on SoulJa Boy (Dakota Rodeo/Chad Berger/Clay Struve). J.B. Mauney of Mooresville, N.C. was third with 174 points followed by Round 1 leader McKennon Wimberly of Cool, Texas with 172.5 points and Ben Jones of Goulburn, Australia with 171.25 points.
The BFTS will travel to the Bi-Lo Center in Greenville, S.C. on Sept. 10-11 for the first event in the Final Five Chase. Tickets begin at $10 and can be purchased at www.Ticketmaster.com or by telephone at (800) 745-3000.
The first 25 events of the 2010 BFTS season have produced 17 different winners and there are 11 riders in the Top 20 with an event win. Meier has the most wins with five while Nunes has three and Valdiron de Oliveira and Silvano Alves of Pilar, Brazil, each have two wins. The standings lead has changed nine times and six different riders have been ranked first. Mauney has been first three different times while Meier and Nunes have each been on top twice.
