Tampa, Fla (January 31, 2010) - The Professional Bull Riders, Inc. (PBR) wrapped up the Tampa Invitational on Sunday, with fan favorite Wiley Peterson (Fort Hall, Idaho) getting his first event win of the 2010 season.
“I feel pretty good,” commented Peterson. “This year I’m focusing on keeping the fire going, and it all worked out for me this weekend.”
Peterson received the second highest score of the evening in the Built Ford Tough Championship Round. After unsuccessfully attempting RFD-TV (Teague Bucking Bulls, LLC/RFDTV, LLC) at two previous events, Peterson managed to hang on until the buzzer this time and got a huge 90 points from the judges. That secured him the event win, and he walked away with $27,590.40.
Overall, Shane Proctor (Grand Coulee, Wash.) came in second behind Peterson in the event, taking home a total of $13,842.30 for the weekend. After an exciting Championship round featuring the last three World Champion bulls, LJ Jenkins (Texico, N.M.) took third place for $14,100.40, Josh Koschel (Greeley, Colo.) walked away with fourth place and $7,880, and Aaron Roy (Asquith, SK) got fifth place overall and $5,197.40.Jenkins, the Round 1 winner, also took home the championship round win. Jenkins stayed on Chance, owned by Teague Bucking Bulls, LLC, for the highest score of the weekend – 90.5 points. He also went home with $2,730 for the round. Peterson took second in the short-go with his event winning ride on RFD-TV, while Canadian cowboy Aaron Roy rode Fat Lip (Circle T Ranch & Rodeo) for 89.75 points, $1,170 and third place in the round. Fourth place went to Josh Koschel’s 89.25 point ride on Frosty (Circle T Ranch & Rodeo) while Shane Proctor continued his hot streak by riding Over the Edge (Lufkin Ranch & Rodeo) for 88.75 points and fifth place in the round.
Some of the most impressive rides of the weekend though came from Jody Newberry (Ada, Okla.), who just made the cut last week and is back on the BFTS tour for the first time since 2007. After his tie for fifth and sixth place in Round 1, Newberry finished in another tie in Round 2, this time for second and third place with Josh Koschel. Newberry rode Backyard Big Rig (Jeff Robinson/Pinnacle Bull Group), while Koschel stayed on Larry the Cable Guy’s Smokey (Jeff Robinson/Jeffrey Scott/Pinnacle Bull Group), both for 88.5 points.
