Clark goes for record fifth-straight win Wednesday

PUEBLO, Colo. (July 12, 2010) - Brendon Clark (Morpeth, New South Wales, Australia) will be trying for his fifth consecutive victory on Wednesday at the Professional Bull Riders Touring Pro Division event at the Salinas Sports Complex in Salinas, Calif.

Clark finished first at West Jordan, Utah, on Saturday to become the first rider to win four consecutive PBR-sanctioned events. His other wins were at Lancaster, Calif., on July 4, Greeley, Colo., on June 26 and St. Paul, Ore., on June 30. Clark is scheduled to return to the elite Built Ford Tough Series in Tulsa, Okla., on July 16-18.

Toby Everett (Durango, Colo.) finished second in Utah with 166 points while first-round leader Douglas Duncan (Alvin, Texas) was third with 89.5 points.

The bull riding on Wednesday in Salinas, Calif., begins at 7 p.m. Tickets begin at $10 and can be purchased at http://www.carodeo.com or by telephone at (800) 549-4989. The field has over 10 riders ranked in the BFTS Top 40, including 2009 PBR World Finals event winner J.B. Mauney (Mooresville, N.C.), 2004 PBR World Champion Mike Lee (Decatur, Texas), and 2008 PBR Rookie of the Year Reese Cates (El Dorado, Ark.).

The TPD is the minor-league tour of the PBR, where both established veterans and newcomers to the professional ranks compete against some of the most famous bucking bulls. The TPD gives riders the opportunity to compete in PBR-sanctioned events while earning money to qualify for the elite Built Ford Tough Series, which is comprised of the Top 40 bull riders in the world. Every five events on the BFTS, the bottom five riders (based on points) are dropped from the BFTS and the Top 5 riders (based on money earned) from the TPD are allowed to move into the BFTS.

Brazilian riders posted a pair of wins last weekend, with Robson Aragao riding for 87.5 points on Friday at Cowboys Dancehall in San Antonio and Wagner Luciano finishing first with 87.5 points at the Buckin’ in the Ozarks PBR Enterprise Rent-A-Car event on Saturday.

The BFTS returns from its summer break this weekend with the Express Classic in Tulsa, Okla., presented by Cooper Tires and brought to you locally by Troy-Bilt and Blue-Emu. Tickets are available starting at $10 and can be purchased at the Arby's Box Office at the BOK Center, at Reasor’s locations in Broken Arrow, Catoosa, Claremore, Jenks, Langley, Owasso, Sapulpa, Tahlequah and Tulsa, online at www.bokcenter.com and by telephone at (866) 7-BOK-CTR. Bull riding begins at 8 p.m. on Friday, July 16, 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, July 17 and 2 p.m. on Sunday, July 18.The elite BFTS is having the deepest title race in history and there have been 15 different winners through the first 20 events.

There are 12 riders in the Top 20 of the BFTS standings who have won an event. The multiple-event winners for 2010 are Austin Meier with four wins, and Renato Nunes and Valdiron de Oliveira with two wins apiece.

The BFTS standings lead has changed nine times and there have been six different riders at the top in the first half of the season. J.B. Mauney has been ranked first three different times, while Meier and Nunes have each held the top spot twice.
