New York, NY (February 27, 2010) - The Professional Bull Riders, Inc. (PBR) is thrilled to announce the 2010 World Cup team captains. The five captains will be representing and leading their respective countries (United States, Mexico, Brazil, Canada, and Australia) to find out who is the best bull riding nation in the world!
Leading Team USA and defending USA’s 2008 and 2009 PBR World Cup titles will be 2002 PBR World Finals Event winner and former PBR Rookie of the Year, J.W. Hart (Marietta, Okla.). This is Hart’s third year as captain of Team USA, and he is looking to continue the team’s winning streak.
For the fourth year in a row, Team Brazil’s captain is PBR legend Adriano Moraes (Cachoeiera Paulista, SP, Brazil), who is the only rider in PBR history to win three World Championship titles. The USA/Brazil rivalry continues this year, as Moraes makes plans to avenge Brazil’s home turf loss to USA at last year’s World Cup, and walk away with the 2010 PBR World Cup title.
Cody Snyder (Medicine Hat, AB), former World Champion Bull Rider, returns for the fourth year in a row as the Canadian team captain. Team Canada finished second at the 2007 and 2009 World Cup events, and Snyder hopes to finally have Team Canada in position to take home the coveted event title.
Heading up the Australian team is 1998 PBR World Champion Troy Dunn (Queensland, AU). Dunn returns as the Australian captain for the fourth time, aiming to prove that Australia is one of the elite bull riding nations in the world.
Team Mexico has a new focus in 2010, with two-time PBR World Finals qualifier Gerardo Venegas (Juarez, Chih, Mexico) taking the lead as team coach. He will be working with two co-captains from the two largest rodeo and bull riding federations in Mexico: Amando Aguirre, President of the Mexican Federation of Rodeo, and Ruben Mujica, President of Cuernos Chuecos (Mexican bull riding league). Aguirre and Mujica have joined forces to ensure that Team Mexico has the best Mexican bull riders representing their country in Las Vegas, giving them a prime opportunity to take home the title.
The 2010 PBR World Cup presented by Dickies, the PBR’s premier international event, comes to the United States for the first time ever. All of the action will take place at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas from April 16-18.
Held over the course of three nights, fans will be witness to world-class rides during six rounds of action, with all 25 riders competing in each round. This means that fans will have the opportunity to watch at least 50 show-stopping rides each night! The top three scores for each country in each round will count toward the team total. The team accumulating the most points during the six rounds will be declared the winner!
