Underwood, longtime Houston rodeo patron[Jun. 12, 2008] Industrialist and inveterate horseman Clayton Harold Underwood, who as a leader of the Houston Livestock and Rodeo...died Monday at his Conroe home from complications of Alzheimer's disease. He was 79, just weeks short of his 80th birthday.

Rodeo world loses legendary announcer - Tom Hadley[Jun. 4, 2008] Tom Hadley announced three generations of rodeo cowboys and cowgirls in 33 states and four countries. Along the way, he announced the National Finals Rodeo in 1971, 1973 and 1982. He was selected to the ProRodeo Hall of Fame in Colorado Springs, Colo., in 2001. A founding member of the National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association, he was the organization's first steer wrestling champion in 1949, representing New Mexico A&M.

Australian Country music legend Smoky Dawson dies[Feb. 14, 2008] The music community is mourning the death of the last of Australia's original country music pioneers, Smoky Dawson, who has died aged 94. The legendary singer died in Sydney shortly after 5pm (AEDT) on January 13 of complications from surgery, a spokeswoman for the Australian Country Music Foundation said.

Australian Rodeo champion dies after bull riding accident[Nov. 20, 2007] Australia rodeo fans lost their All-around National Champion Cowboy, Greg Meech. Greg, 33, from Caboolture, died in Ipswich Hospital from internal bleeding on Saturday night after he was thrown off a bull and stomped on at the Ipswich Rodeo in south-east Queensland, Australia.
Hank Thompson, 82; country singer created 'honky-tonk swing'[Nov. 8, 2007] Hank Thompson, a pioneering honky-tonk singer and songwriter with a crystalline tenor voice, whose biggest hit, "The Wild Side of Life," generated a fervent response in the early 1950s from Kitty Wells that helped open country music's doors to women, died Tuesday of lung cancer. He was 82.
