Bob Babin, age 65, of Waller, TX, died August 15th of heart failure. He was born
September 20, 1944 in Lake Charles, Louisiana. He rode broncs and bulls until an arm
injury and multiple surgeries forced him to quit. He then became a rodeo clown and
bullfighter in the International Rodeo Association from 1966 until 1978. He worked for
rodeo producers: Sloan Williams, Frank Harris, the Kinney Brothers and for the Loretta
Lynn Rodeo Company. Babin was well known for his acts which included monkeys,
Shetland ponies, Roman riding ponies, a coffin act, the Bucking Ford and many more.
Bob owned Texas Copy Service, a medical record information service. Although retired
from his clowning career he stayed involved the rodeo world by attending the Rodeo
Clown Reunions and was a member of the Rodeo Cowboy Alumni Association. He is
survived by wife, Kate of Waller, TX; daughter Monique Elam of Sulphur, LA; son
Robert Jr., of Tallahassee, FL; sister, Joyce Guillory of Lake Charles, LA; brother, C. G.
Babin of Lake Charles, LA; granddaughters, Lynsey Babin and Lexi Langley of Sulphur,
LA; grandsons Jordan Elam of Sulphur, LA; and Tyler Babin of Tallahassee, FL; and
great-granddaughter, Chaeleigh Burnett of Sulphur, LA. plus numerous nieces and
nephews. Visitation will be held Wednesday evening, August 18th, at Klein Funeral
Home at 9719 Wortham Blvd., Houston, TX, near Highways 290 and 1960. On
Thursday, August 19th, visitation and service will be held at the Johnson Funeral Home,
on Lake St, in Lake Charles, LA, from 1 PM to 4PM. Burial will be at Graceland
Cemetery in Lake Charles, LA. Memorials in his name can be made at your local Special
Olympics.
