Bull Riders, Cowboys and God

When you make your living riding bulls the one thing you are always sure of - someday your going to get hurt or even killed. It is a dangerous job. Mike Lee said in the press conference at the 2004 PBR Finals, "When you nod your head, you must be prepared to die." Anyone who knows Mike knows he is referring to his faith in God. It is this faith that spurred the man who was about to win a million dollars to walk over to Adriano, the only man who could beat him, and help him with his bull. For Mike this wasn't a competitor, it was a man he shares Bible study with. His competitor is the bull. He would win or lose on his own ability, nothing more. When these bull riders talk about their faith it is real. They believe that by being champions they are given the opportunity to witness to the world. Mike, Adriano and other bull riders have told the press they are not just bull riders but missionaries. I have been blessed to meet many cowboys and cowgirls who are missionaries and role models. I respect them and thank them for teaching me that even though I don't ride a bull for a living I do need to be prepared.
