It has been a fantastic year for the bullfighters of the Midwest Bullfighters Association filled with great freestyle bullfights and the roar of excited fans. The 2008 season came to a dramatic close in Burlington, Iowa in a three day finals in conjunction with Snow Bull the second stop on the Extreme Bullriding Tour. The edge-of- your-seat action ended with Jeremy Muntz claiming the 2008 Championship. Jeremy’s championship buckle was sponsored by Bob Berg Designs and had everyone talking about how beautiful it was.
The following is a round by round report of the finals:
Round 1
As fans started pouring into the Chad Carlson Memorial Arena in Burlington, IA, the level of anxiety was building for our Top 4 Freestyle Bullfighters in the country. Behind the chutes, Jeremy Muntz, Corey Griebel, Brandon Lindsay, and Rookie Jerry Pellham. Each one understood the reason they were here and what they had to do in order to become the 2008 Midwest Bullfighters Association Champion. The pressure was on Number 1 ranked Bullfighter Jeremy Muntz with only a 90 point lead in the standings over Corey Greibel. Lindsay was not far behind Greibel neither. Jerry Pellham would have his hands full if he wanted to clinch the Championship and everything needed to be just right.

As the Bullfighters were introduced each one drew their bull and it look to be a very exciting 1st round. Gunner Jeremy Muntz was first up, with the packed house on their feet Muntz called for his bull. He stuck tight around to the left making his fight look picture perfect. As Muntz stepped out he threw an unbelievable fake and his bull took it and slid right past. Muntz then started to show the crowd why he is ranked number 1. Muntz’s score came back with an 80, enough to set the standard for the Finals.
2nd up was Corey Griebel. Corey was trailing Muntz by 90 points, so he knew he had to turn it up a notch. Griebel called for his bull and he wasted no time and immediately took the fight to his bull. Griebel was making amazing rounds to the right. As his bull broke away Griebel got him lined out for a fantastic jump and the crowd was wild. As Corey’s score came back it was looking like he would take the lead over Muntz and they were right. Griebel turned in a score of 85.
3rd up was MBA Finals veteran Brandon Lindsay. Lindsay drew the hottest bull in the pen and he was ready for him. Lindsay called for his bull and took him to the left for a few nice rounds. Brandon broke away to get his bull lined out for a jump. As Lindsay leaped over his bull caught him in mid air and Brandon hit the ground immediately bullfighters on the fence were there to help their friend out. Once Lindsay got to his feet, he wanted more. Lindsay went back to him to sell his fight. As the MBA Finals Judges, Allen Dessel, Andy Thompson, and Steve Snow all tallied up their points, Brandon Lindsay’s score came back as 75.

Last up was “Rookie of the Year” Jerry Pellham. This was Pellham’s first time at the MBA Finals, but certainly no stranger to Freestyle Bullfighting. Pellham knew he had a lot of catching up to do in the point standings and he was ready to show exactly what a Rookie can do. Pellham called for his bull and they went at it like Mike Tyson and Lennox Lewis. As the two battled, Pellham got in a jam near the fence and couldn’t seem to find his way out. When another Bullfighter got the bull’s attention to give Pellham a fair shot at the Championship everyone realized Pellham was hurt. As he held his wrist, he managed to tip his hat to the fans as a show of support. He turned in a score of 77 to put him in the 3rd spot during the MBA Finals and bump Lindsay to 4th. As the night came to an end, everyone knew this was going to be one tough weekend full of surprises.
The 2nd round faired to be one the most exciting Freestyle Bullfight competition’s in MBA history. Gunner Jeremy Muntz stepped it up a notch to make sure Griebel didn’t take away the Championship title he wanted. Muntz battled it out with great fakes and two fantastic jumps. Muntz turned in the highest score of the Finals with an 88.
2nd up was Rookie Jerry Pellham. After nursing his wrist injury from the previous night, Pellham thought he could set the pain aside win the 2nd round of the MBA Finals. After three very nice passes, he took a hookin’ which put him out of the round with a no score

3rd up was 2nd man in the standings Corey Griebel. After winning round 1 he was confident he could again win this round as well. Greibel made very impressive moves that had the standing room only crowd on their toes. He again showed that he wanted the MBA Championship title. As he got his bull lined out he made a great jump and threw his hat into the crowd to sell the fight. As everyone was clapping Corey’s score came back as a 79 enough to take second
Last, was Brandon Lindsay, after suffering from numerous injuries in the first round, all his pain went away as he called for his bull. Lindsay put on one heck of a show and turned in a score of 75 just enough to take 3rd in the round.
The anticipation was building as we grew closer to starting the final round of the 2008 MBA Finals performance. Jeremy Muntz needed to finish a meer 4th in the Round and Greibel needed to place 1st. As strong as Muntz has been during the Finals, Muntz was going to be tough to beat. First up was Corey Greibel, he definitely needed a great fight in order to pull off win. He drew a hot bull and as they were making rounds the fight looked to be one of the best of the Finals. Greibel scores an 82 and hopes that is good enough for the win. Next up was Jerry Pellham and the recipient of a Protective Vest from TK Specialties for the “Rookie of the Year” award. Pellham had his best fight of the Finals with a score of 79. Next up, Jeremy Muntz, he knew he needed to just stay on his feet and be patient and stay tight to his bull. As he landed a perfect jump, he called the fight and the score came in as 82 points. He clinched the 2008 MBA Finals Championship. Although a new champion was crowned one man stood left in the arena waiting patiently for his bull, Brandon Lindsay didn’t care if Muntz had already won it or not.
