PUEBLO, Colo. (July 24, 2008) - 2007 World Champion Bull Chicken on a Chain owned by Jeff Robinson, Mike Tedesco and Larry the Cable Guy is being treated at the University of Tennessee Veterinary Medicine Clinic for urolithiasis – the forming of stones in the kidney, bladder and/or urinary tract. He starting showing signs of severe abdominal discomfort, dehydration, weight loss and high fever after the Express Classic presented by Nation Creek Casino this past weekend, July 18-20, in Tulsa, Okla.
“Chicken on a Chain appeared fine in Tulsa. He didn’t have his best trip ever, but he was still good,” said PBR livestock director and co-founder Cody Lambert.
Shortly after the event, Robinson transported his prize bull the veterinary medicine clinic where Chicken on a Chain’s kidney stones were removed. He is continuing to receive treatment for dehydration and infection.
Dr. Michael Hernandaz is caring for Chicken on a Chain and said the owners are all extremely lucky to have caught the illness in time and to have such a strong bull. Chicken on a Chain has been started on a strict dietary and exercise program.
“We are just lucky that Jeff Robinson takes such good care of his bulls and got Chicken on a Chain to the vet as soon as he did,” Lambert continued.
Chicken on a Chain will be out of competition for six to 12 weeks and is expected to have a full recovery.
