2008 American Bucking BulI, Inc. World Finals Bucking Bull Sale, South Point Casino, Las Vegas, November 5th.

When over 500 people jam into the Grand Ballroom at South Point Casino to witness a bucking bull sale with only 23 lots, you know something exciting is going to happen. This is Las Vegas, and the spectacle of the ABBI Select Sale was a bigger attraction for an hour and a half to these bucking bull breeders and fans than the casinos, whether they were bidding or not.

With two giant video screens and real-time internet access through Superior Livestock Productions the sale followed the ABBI/PBR Stock Contractor’s awards program and dinner. Commentators Clint Adkins, Brandon Bates, Cody Lambert and auctioneer Justin McKee all contributed to the evening’s huge success.

The list of auction consignors read like a who’s who in bucking bull breeding: Brian Agnew, The Firm (Mendell/Lane/Downard), Steve and Julie Ravenscroft, Alex Naccarato, the Morenos, D&H Cattle, Boyd & Floyd, Tom Teague and Beutler & Son among others.

The animals being sold were just as recognizable: Chester, Tilta Whirl, Hippy Music, Rowdy Houdlum and Spider Monkey, all names that have been in the Bull Pen Magazine headlines all season long—the stars of the ABBI.

With live cover breeding from legendary bulls such as Little Yellow Jacket, Big Bucks, Chicken On A Chain, Mossy Oak Mudslinger, Troubadour, Voodoo Child and Camo, it is no wonder the fans wanted to experience the sale action in person. They were not disappointed.

ABBI's decision to limit the sale to just 23 special lots made the sale a premier event. The grand total sold of $282,850 was also impressive for a first time select sale. Here is the revenue breakdown: $2,850 resulted from the sale of the Little Blue Dummies with proceeds going to the USBBA Junior Futurity; $11,500 proceeds donated to the Rider Relief Fund specifically for PBR Bull Rider Koben Puckett; additional contribution from Cody & Leanne Lambert to RRF of $4,000.

ABBI GM, Andee Lamoreaux, was proud of the special offerings at the prestigious, soon-to-be annual sale. “The selection of animals that ABBI Registry Manager Zach Gunter was able to put together for this sale was outstanding,” she noted. “Offering this caliber of bulls at future Finals will be our new goal, each year, for our Select Sale during the ABBI World Finals.”

For his part, Gunter proved that the limited-offering concept would be well-received. “I thought the sale was something very special this year,” he commented. “We offered quality ABBI bulls along with good young and up-and-coming athletes. All animals consigned had won money or had placed really well in the Futurity and Classic ranks.”

The sale also offered one yearling as a futurity prospect for 2009. Cindy Louise and Julio Moreno sold a son of the famous Reindeer Dippin’ for $26,000. “I believe this shows the money that is available in the Futurities and Classics, and that people are willing to take the risk,” stated Gunter.

Of the rare chance to purchase live cover by some very famous PBR bulls, Gunter acknowledged, “We understand that a select amount of people will want the PBR bulls, so we added something new this year with the Live Breedings. This gives everyone from small to large breeders an opportunity to improve their breeding programs.”
