There is no one involved in the horse industry who does not know how important this issue is. It would be wonderful if every horse were perfect and lived long lives and everyone could afford to keep them long into their old age. That is not realistic. Also most people involved in the horse industry are involved in a business that revolves around horses and the reality of any business is that to stay in business it must make money.

There are several point that people against horse slaughter alwasys seem to miss:

1. As stated above their is the economic impact to the owner or business of an undesirable animal or one that needs to be disposed of.

2. WDithout horse slaughter thousands of horses will be left to die on their own. Rural areas are already over run with dogs and cats left off to die or to fend in what others consider to be the wild. Trust me those of us living in rural areas that must contednd with these animals do not see it as a human way to deal with the problem!

3. Assuming that the inividual does want to bury the horse - Where do they do this?

4. Since when do we in Amerca have the right to tell the rest of the world what to eat? In fact since when does the government have the right to tell people in America what to eat? Will we stop at horses or once this battle is won will the animal rights people turn to goats, sheep, rabbits or cattle? There is no real difference. People involved in agriculture need to be paying attention!

A large majority of those speaking out against horse slaughter are those in the entertainment business. I wonder how they would feel if we messed with their livelyhood?
