News Release

August 20, 2009

CALGARY, ALTA. – Lethbridge Whoop Up Days Family Festival is in full swing, and the rodeo is just hours away from kicking off.

Cowboys and cowgirls are sure to be out in full force, trying to pick up enough winnings to help pave the way to the Canadian Finals Rodeo as the regular season starts to wind down.

Three performances of Canadian Professional Rodeo Association (CPRA) rodeo action invade Exhibition Park from Aug. 20-22, featuring the six major events in rodeo; saddle bronc, bareback, bull riding, tie-down roping, steer wrestling and ladies barrel racing, plus team roping.

Thursday and Friday’s performances are scheduled to kick off at 7 p.m., while Saturday’s afternoon performance starts at 2 p.m.

But the excitement doesn’t end there.

As the Whoop Up Days Pro Rodeo comes to an end, saddle bronc fans can head north to Cold Lake, Alta. for the Cold Lake Buck Off.

Now in it’s 10th year of no-holds barred bucking action, the Cold Lake Agricultural Society invites you to watch the top 10 bronc riders from 2008, and the top 10 so far from the 2009 Canadian standings ride it out on Aug. 22, starting at 6 p.m.

Each qualified rider gets two rounds on Franklin Rodeo Co. stock, and a chance to make it to the short go. Each go-round winner and the top four on two head advance to the short go.

Upcoming Rodeos:
Lethbridge, AB ~ August 20-22
Cold Lake, AB ~ August 22
Kamloops, BC ~ August 28-29
Armstrong, B.C. ~ September 2-6
Okotoks, AB ~ September 4-6
Merritt, B.C. ~ September 4-6
