Another pro rodeo weekend is in the books

 

CALGARY, ALTA. - Right now pro rodeos are going everyday right through until August 3 when there will be a five-day break until the next spurt.

 

Medicine Hat, AB kicked off the action July 24-26 followed by Drumheller, AB July 26-27 and Bruce, AB, which once again held its one-day stampede July 27.

 

Saddle bronc rider *Rod Warren, (Big Valley, AB)* had high 70-point scores in Drumheller and Bruce taking home two cheques worth $1,182. Rod is fifth in the Canadian standings, about $6,500 behind *Chet Johnson, (Gillette, WY)* who is leading the way.

 

*Kyle Bowers, (Brooks, AB)* and *Todd Shelton, (Peers, AB)* were the top guys in bareback riding over the weekend. Todd took home a 77-point win on /Calgary Stampede’s Fancy Dancer/ in Drumheller and the win in Medicine Hat on /Kesler Rodeo’s Star Burst/ with weekend earnings totaling $3,613. Kyle, who leads the Canadian bareback standings with $21,307 won on /Franklin Rodeo’s Scottish Lass/ in Bruce and placed fourth with an 80-point score in Medicine Hat.

 

Bull riding turned out to be anyone’s game, but *Clem Lowry, (**Perryvale, AB)* did make money in both Bruce and Drumheller with 76 and 84.5-point scores respectively. His weekend earnings totaled $969. He is currently 31st in the standings.

 

Tie-down roper* Nathan Baldwin* was the real story over the weekend. The *Blackfoot, ID *native swept the board earning cheques at all three locations. The first, third and fourth place earnings totaled $3,529 and bumped him from 10th to seventh in the Canadian Standings.

 

*Tyson Durfey*, *(Colbert, WA)* won in Bruce with a 7.4 second time and was runner-up in Medicine Hat with a time of 8.6 seconds.

 

In steer wrestling *Luke Laskosky, (Viking, AB)* did some damage, winning in Drumheller and coming in second at Medicine Hat. His weekend earnings totaled $3,667. *Cody Cassidy, (Donalda, AB)* is also on a roll. He won in Bruce and came in third at Medicine Hat. Cody currently leads the way in the Canadian steer wrestling standings with $21,102.

 

*Molly Powell, (**Stephenville, TX )* and *Janet Moen (Stewart Valley, SK)* both took home money at all three locations this past weekend. Molly won with a 17.62 second time in Bruce and came in second and third in Drumheller and Medicine Hat.

 

Janet didn’t do as well but did take home total earnings of $2,575 from the three locations.
