CALGARY, ALTA. – Kyle Thomson broke the scaphoid bone in his left wrist when he was thrown from Outlawbucker’s American Trip at the Sundre Pro Rodeo last month, but that hasn’t slowed the 2002 All-Around Canadian champion one bit.

Thomson, who competes in both the saddle bronc and steer wrestling, has been doing so with a cast on his riding hand one rodeo at a time. This past weekend he placed at the Manitoba Stampede, Taber Pro Rodeo and Moose Mountain Pro Rodeo. The earnings will help keep the Black Diamond, Alta. cowboy keep his first-place standing in the all around secure for at least another week.

He placed third in the saddle bronc at the Moose Mountain Pro Rodeo in Kennedy, Sask. and in Taber, Alta., and picked up cheques at the Manitoba Stampede in Morris, Man. in both the saddle bronc and steer wrestling for a weekend total of $2,815.

“I got bucked off and landed on it,” Thomson explained of the June 19 injury.

“They just told me to do what I thought I could do,” he said of the doctors that fixed him up, “so I went and did it.

“I’ve been going since.”

What’s he been doing to keep his wrist on the mend?

“Just rodeoing and working. It’s in a cast so I can’t even move it. I’m not sure what I’ve got to do when it’s off, just probably get a brace built for a little bit. I’ve been getting a new cast every two weeks, but I’ve got my next x-ray on Wednesday at Sports Medicine.”
