The Great Western Hotel Arena Rockhampton hosted stop number 10 on the Professional Bull Riders Touring Pro Tour. Only eight more events until the Touring Pro Finals, to be held on the 30th & 31st December, 2006.
The long round was won by Emerald Bull Rider Matt Postle who has been one of the most consistent on tour. Postle rode Gold Buckle’s Fly Bait for 86 points.
The second round was all bulls; again the bull power at the Western was something special. With bulls like Grief maker, Cloud Nine, Ban Dee Doe and Wild West running up in the final round.
NSW’s Steven Clark has been battling a groin injury for the last couple of events and was hungry for success. After a first round score of 79.5 points he needed a high marked ride to be in with a chance. Kent Hansen’s Booger Red was Clark’s ticket. When the dust had settled the judges marked him 89.5points and the overall event lead.
Cody Tapp from Katherine in the Northern Territory had placed 4th in the first round on Shane Iker’s Thumbs Up for 81.5pts. Tapp was in a good position and had drawn Glen Brodie/Diamond J’s Tsunami; he rode the bull for 87.5points and a share of the lead.
The race to be PBR Australia’s representative at the 2006 PBR World Finals is heating up, Heath Shrimp currently has a $2066.25 lead over Tim Wilson with two events remaining before the 15th October cut off.
PBR Australia Stop Number 13 will take us to the Sugar Cane Farming community of Gargett in Central Queensland; this event is put on by the Mirani Sugar Valley Lions Club. Gargett has been holding bull riding and rodeo events for more than 60years.
