Round 9 of the Professional Bull Riders Australia Touring Pro rocked the small town of Capella in Central Queensland on the weekend. Thirty five of the countries top bull riders matched up against four of Queensland’s best pens of bucking bulls to deliver a night of exciting bull riding action.
Tim Wilson from Orange NSW is currently leading the title race this year. Wilson and 2005 Capella Event Champion Ryan Storey split first place in the round with scores of 85.5 points. Wilson aboard Glen Brodie/Diamond J Rodeo Co’s 2005 Rookie Bull of the year John Doe and Storey matched up with Kent Hansen’s Pearl Jam. Emerald bull rider Mat Postle was third on Trevor & Tony Dunne’s Indian Enemy for 83.5 points.
The second half of the short go was one of the best we have witnessed this year. Heath Shrimp who is currently leading our World qualifier race started it off with an exceptional ride on Kent Hansen’s great bull Booger Red for 89 points.
This was followed by 2005 Australian Champion Kevin Connolly on Glen Brodie/Diamond J’s Strip Tease for an 87.5points which also made him the first bull rider to successfully ride two bulls.
Mat Postle advanced on his first round score with a great bull ride on the big black bull of Glen Brodie & Diamond J’s Ban Dee Doe for 88.5 points.
It came down to Tim Wilson who was drawn up on Trevor & Tony Dunne’s great bull Wicked Twister the pair had met before with the bull being the victor. Wilson rode him like he owned him for 87 point and the overall event win with 172.5 points.
Tim Wilson was presented with the beautiful Kay Payton Bronze sculpture and a cheque for $1652.31.
The Capella Committee were again responsible for staging another great event and are looking forward to going one better next year when they celebrate their 10th anniversary.

Tim Wilson (Orange, NSW) – 87 points on Dunne’s Wicked Twister.
