Scotia Homecoming Marks 10 Years of Extreme Bull Riding Success...

For the 10th year the Extreme Bullriding Tour made its annual stop in Scotia, NE as a part of their annual celebration Scotia Homecoming. Despite the fact that there had been rain earlier in the day the stands were full and the skies stayed clear until after the Bullriding was over.
Paige Smith, 6-year old daughter of Shad and Vicki Smith, owners of Double S Bull Company, was a highlight of the opening ceremonies as she sang the National Anthem with the assistance of Extreme Entertainer, Mark Keaton. Paige’s brother Cash held the American flag as his sister sang. Once rodeo announcer, Russ Warren, had introduced all the riders it was time for Bullriding with the professional riders of the Bullriders of America and the National Federation of Professional Bullriders but it was a young rookie who had just joined the BOA that took home the Bob Berg Design champion buckle and the top dollars. Jason Mead might have been the new boy on the tour but his 166 on two bulls was what it took to win. Jason was the only man to cover his bull in the short-go.
The top bull of the night was number 22 Radar who made fast work of Tell Jacobs escorting him to the arena floor. This is the second event in a row that 22 Radar has received this honor. At the last event he helped Jimmy Twedt earn a 90-point score.
Homecoming is such a great name for this event as both the production team and the riders are made to feel as if they are coming home each year. Sadly one member of the production team that has made the trip to Scotia each year was absent. Just weeks ago Thad Ida lost his life in a tragic car accident. Thad has judged many Extreme events including Scotia and the committee and production team paid him tribute right before the final short-go round. Country singer, Mark Keaton took center arena, guitar in hand, to sing “The Last Rodeo” in honor of his friend and fellow Extreme Team member.
It was a great night of laughs and thrills and happiness that the rain held off. As the crowd met with the riders and personnel at the autograph session hosted by Rodeo Attitude talk of next year was already in the air.
