DENVER, Colo.--- Tiphani Carter has made the trip from Oklahoma City to Denver to compete at the Martin Luther King Jr. African American Rodeo of Champions every year since the National Western has hosted the event in 2005.

It’s been a good decision for the cowgirl as she has placed in the ladies steer undecoratin every year and has won it the past two years. In 2009, she had a time of 2.2 seconds for the win. This year she stopped the clock in 2.4 seconds and will take another championship back to Oklahoma. Making it even more special was having her mother Carolyn Carter tie for second place. Carolyn and Stephanie Haynes both had 2.6-second runs.

The Ladies steer undecoratin is always a fan favorite here with fast times and great action. The competitor rides on the left side of the steer with a helper horseback on the right. She then leans off of her horse and takes a ribbon off of the steer’s back. When she holds up the ribbon, the time is stopped.

Carter is also a favorite in the all-around cowgirl category. She placed fourth here in the ladies barrel race. This is not the first time she has been a contender in that event. She placed second here in that event in 2008 and was third in 2006.

Rodeo action continues here Tuesday with two performances of the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association events at 2 and 7:30 p.m.
