 After two action packed days
of bull riding at the Dodge Arena at the Missouri State Fair it was John
Susie who earned the coveted 13th Annual Dodge Championship Bullriding Frontier Trophy Buckle.
John rode two bulls for 169.5 points and $1523.25. The two day
event was produced by White Buffalo Productions owned by Todd and Tammy
Crase, formerly of Missouri and now of Winterset, IA and Ryan Skillett,
Lincoln, NE, and a part of the Extreme Bullriding Tour presented by
RodeoAttitude.com. The win for Susie increased his lead as the
number one man in the tour rankings for the 2008 Tour Championship.
The tour championship brings with it several awards including an M & M
Custom Camper. On Friday night the top
award went to Dustin Hall. Dustin who has qualified several
times for the world-re-known PBR World Finals is without a doubt one of
the top bullriders in the world. Dustin who hails from Missouri
still enjoys returning to compete at his home state's biggest fair and the
Dodge Championship Bullriding. Saturday
nights top athletes were the bulls. Few bull ridings have the
quality of this well-balanced herd of bulls. The bulls were provided
by reigning Bullriders of America Stock Contractor of the Year, Double S
Bull Company, Sidney, IA, award winning NFPB stock contractors Clint
Jackson and Frank Walkowe and professional bull rider, Matt Bohon and his
father, Everett Bohon. On Saturday night there were only 3 qualified
rides during the long-go round despite the outstanding abilities of the
riders who were competing. In the short-go the three men came back
to compete on the elite bulls of the herd. 451 Gambler had been
selected earlier to be the B & W Turnover Ball Hitch Bounty Bull and
Henry Yoder had drawn the opportunity to win the bonus for a qualified
ride. The Gambler had other ideas and once again went
unridden. Out of the the three men who earned spots in the short-go
only John Susie successfully covered his bull and thus won him the
Saturday night event and ultimately the two-day event championship. The
13th Annual Dodge Championship Bullriding was highlighted by a break in
bull riding action by the talents of trick rider Tina Bates. Tina
thrilled the capacity crowd with her exploits on the back of her equine
partner at both nights performances. Sedalia's
own, Chris Pyle, provided the ride-by-ride commentary of the event while
playing straight man for funnyman, Dusty Myers. This was Dusty's
first trip to the Dodge Championship Bullriding and the audience rewarded
him with lots of laughter and applause. Sam
Miller of Dodge Rodeo, and the Missouri State Fair Board were presented
plagues by White Buffalo Productions and the Extreme Bullriding Tour in
appreciation of their continued support of bull riding and the Tour. |
