Newberry puts on a show in his hometown
[May 30, 2009] ADA, Okla. – Jody Newberry is an Ada boy at heart.

On Friday night during the first performance of the Cord McCoy Invitational presented by Cooper Tires, Newberry lit the Pontotoc County Agri-Plex ablaze with two strong rides and now carries the lead into tonight’s second performance after scoring 172 points on two rides. By Ted Harbin
 
Redding Rodeo winds up with big payouts
[May 17, 2009] Blake Knowles and Corey Navarre both came into Redding, needing to change their fortunes for the 2009 pro rodeo seasons.

They got their change on the final night of the 61st annual Redding Rodeo.
 
Beaver Springs: Cowboy up ... and down
[May 17, 2009] BEAVER SPRINGS — Rodeo is a tough sport. Just ask Cody Rice or Kesley Pontius. They were two competitors who tumbled off their rides in the Saturday night rodeo at the Beaver Springs Fairgrounds.
 
No. 2 trumps No. 1 in bareback event
[May 8, 2009] The second night of bareback riding saw a battle between the Professional Rodeo Cowboy Association's top two riders, with No. 2 besting No. 1.

Second-ranked Heath Ford's Thursday night bareback effort received a score of 81 to become the rodeo leader after two nights. That topped Tim Shirley's 78-point ride Wednesday night. Other bareback rides Thursday included a score of 79 by Steven Anding and scores of 77 by Snyder's Jared Smith and top-ranked bareback rider Clint Cannon, of Waller, Texas.

[Apr. 15, 2009] Oakdale, CA - There was a truckload of money to win during the 58th Annual Oakdale Saddle Club Rodeo and quite a few local cowboys took advantage of the cash to earn.
 
Champions' offspring, area competitors fare well in Lubbock's rodeo
[Apr. 9, 2009] At the ABC Pro Rodeo in Lubbock, Clint Cooper of Decatur, the eldest son of the legendary 1980s world champion Roy Cooper, won the tie-down roping title with a blistering time of 7.1 seconds and earned $1,972.
 
National Federation of Professional Bullriders Federation Finals Rock St. Joesph, MO
[Apr. 3, 2009] On April 2nd the Civic Arena, St. Joseph, MO, opened its doors for the 11th consecutive year to the National Federation of Professional Bullriders Federation Finals. For many this will be more of a family reunion as many members and fans make this an annual must attend event.

Thursday night was also Family Night which admitted one child 12 and under free with an adult admission. Looking into the stands there were lots of families that took advantage of this offer and the NFPB responded with an evening of good family entertainment. 2008 SEBRA Run Finals Crown Champions
[Feb. 22, 2009] The 2008 SEBRA Run Finals were held in Raleigh, NC on February 13th and 14th. The Top 15 Cowgirls competed for over $2,000 in prize money and the chance to win the Championship Saddle and buckles. The Year End Champion was Amelia Bodick from Womelsdorf, PA. Amelia narrowly edged out Lari Lee Isley of Rockingham, NC who had the misfortune of knocking down a barrel. By Tom Smith
 
Champion bullrider Harris scores 90 for title as Bell County PRCA Rodeo closes
[Feb. 15, 2009] BELTON - It was only fitting that the best was saved for last at the 22nd annual Bell County PRCA Rodeo.

 

After J.W. Harris and his family were recognized before the rodeo began, the reigning world champion bullrider lived up to his billing by riding “Red Onion” for a 90-point score Saturday night to take home the top prize at Bell County Expo Center.
 
Yumans giddy up at Silver Spur Rodeo
[Feb. 15, 2009] The 64th annual Yuma Jaycees Silver Spur Rodeo was in full swing yesterday as cowboys and cowgirls from the U.S. and Yuma, AZ - Canada competed in seven PRCA events and two local events in the Yuma County Fairgrounds arena.

Competition began as bareback riders burst from the shoots with horses ready to throw the cowboys before the 8 second clock could sound. Saturday afternoon's results landed Cimmaron Gerke from Brighton, Colo. in a great position with a score of 76. Forrie Smith, a 45-year-old cowboy from Capitan, N.M. rode his way to a 72. J.R. Chino form Mescalero, N.M. landed a 69 and Tom McFarland, who is 11th on the PRCA circuit, ended his ride with a 68 on Saturday after scoring a 74 on Friday. Saturday evening's scores were not available prior to publication.
 
Curtain drops on BHSS rodeo
[Feb. 9, 2009] RAPID CITY — The Black Hills Stock Show Rodeo drew to a close Sunday afternoon with a special open short round where invited rodeo participants were given one last chance to wow the crowd and earn additional cash and prizes. And, as befit the occasion, the rodeo gods perhaps saved the very best for last.

In two classic rodeo events, saddle bronc and bull riding, the bonus round champion was not crowned until the very last rider of the day had touched down.

BRETT HOFFMAN: Feild continues to contribute to the sport
[Jan. 31, 2009] When Lewis Feild won the first of his three consecutive world all-around titles in 1985, the Utah cowboy brought new excitement to the sport.

He was the first bucking-stock rider to earn the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association’s most coveted prize since Larry Mahan won the all-around 12 years earlier in 1973.
