Molly Checks In With the Fastest Barrel Racing Time of This Year’s Canadian Finals Rodeo

Edmonton- Canadian Finals Rodeo used its Friday night performance to honour the men and women of the Canadian Armed Forces, bringing members of the Canadian military on to the infield and unfolding a giant Canadian flag in front of a crowd of 16,033 spectators.

For the second night in a row, the Beers boys showed Rexall Place how it was done, coming out on top of the team roping standings. On Friday night, it took Brandon and Mike just four seconds to stop the clock. The Oregon cowboys set a new CFR record Thursday night, clocking in at 3.7 seconds.

Reigning Canadian Bareback Champion Dusty Lavalley, Crooked Creek, Alta., picked up his first 2008 CFR win, scoring an 85 with Kesler Championship Rodeo’s Shootin’ Stars. There was two-way tie for second with Russ Hallaby and Matt Lait both posting 83.5.

Jody Brown, Calgary, Alta., took 3.6 seconds to turn his steer and place first in the steer wrestling, earning $9,619.

Novice bareback rider Denver DeRose, Kamloops B.C., placed first for the second night in a row, this time scoring a 76 on board Peters and Sons’ Miss Molly, and bringing his CFR total to $3,200.

Novice saddle bronc rider Adam Gilchrist, Maple Creek, Sask., put up his first CFR win. Gilchrist rode Vold Rodeo Ltd.’s Robin Hood to a 75, earning himself $1,200.

Zeke Thurston, Big Valley, Alta., took first place in the boys steer riding for the third night in a row, scoring an 85 and bringing his total CFR earnings to $2,250.

Matt Shiozawa, Chubbuck, Ida., won the tie-down roping for the second consecutive night, this time in 7.6 seconds.

Ladies barrel racer Molly Powell, Stephenville, Tex., ran the course in 15.15 seconds to take first place.

2007 Canadian Bull Riding Champion Nathan Roy earned a first place finish with 88.5 points on board Vold Rodeo Ltd.’s Walk the Line
