The 2008 SEBRA Run Finals were held in Raleigh, NC on February 13th and 14th. The Top 15 Cowgirls competed for over $2,000 in prize money and the chance to win the Championship Saddle and buckles. The Year End Champion was Amelia Bodick from Womelsdorf, PA. Amelia narrowly edged out Lari Lee Isley of Rockingham, NC who had the misfortune of knocking down a barrel. Amelia took home a custom Championship saddle crafted by Pete Hennessy of Hennessy Custom Leather and a Bob Berg Championship buckle. The Finals Champion was Hayley Knox of Statesville, NC. Hayley the daughter of former world champion bull rider Boyce Knox is a rising star in the rodeo world will add another buckle to her trophy case. She was recently crowned the 2008 SRA All Around Champion Cowgirl, the youngest in the history of the Southern Rodeo Association. Each of the finalist was awarded a Hennessy trophy halter, a Wrangler Jacket and other gifts and prizes were provided. The Sportsmanship award, voted on by fellow cowgirls went to veteran barrel racer Marilyn Cunningham of Garner, NC. Her daughter Melody Cunningham was elected the “Best Dressed Cowgirl”. Awards were provided by Wrangler and Gene Radford’s “The Sassy Cowgirl”. During the Valentine’s day arena presentation, Melody also received a big surprise. Her beau Joe Castro popped out of Rodeo Clown Keith Isley’s barrel with a microphone and asked for her hand in marriage. Event producers Jeff and Linda Mullen of Carousel Farms and SEBRA Run Director Jennifer Dagenhart had a tough time keeping the secret proposal from being let out of the bag (barrel) before the presentation. SEBRA Run originator Tom Smith wants to thank everyone who helped out with the association this year. Especially Jason Roberts Rodeo Co., Carousel Farms and Palomino Mtn. Ranch. Keep an eye on www.NBRbull.com for barrel possibilities next year!
