Leave it to a rodeo clown to think of a crazy way to celebrate the annual Day
of the Cowboy in our nation. July 24th has been chosen as The National Day of The
Cowboy, one of the most American professions and one of the most noble. BULLYING
HURTS founder and 30 year PRCA rodeo clown, Starvin’ Marvin Nash, is walking his
barrel from Wyoming senators John Barrasso and Mike Enzi’s office on Capitol Hill in
Washington D. C. on Wednesday, July 14th to Cowtown, New Jersey. This is a distance
of 130 miles by way of Highway 1 out of D. C. through Baltimore to Philadelphia, where
the determined barrelman and laugh-getter will roll on to Highway 40 which takes him
to Woodstown, New Jersey, the home of PRCA Cowtown, New Jersey rodeo. Nash will
average twelve to fifteen miles per day on this adventure.
The purpose of rolling his barrel such a distance in the heat of the summer is
because Nash wants to bring awareness to the important BULLYING HURTS program
which, in the words of Sheriff Welch of Chester County, PA said, “Bullying prevention is
crime prevention.” The BULLYING HURTS program, which has been in effect for eight
years, puts local organizations, (such as Kiwanis, Rotary, or police and sheriff
organizations) as sponsors with local teenagers who talk and mentor elementary-age
youth about the danger of bullying and how to combat bullying if it happens to them. The
Department of Justice has statistics that over 160,000 kids stay home from school every
day for fear of being bullied. The program is considered one of the best to keep
youngsters from having their self-worth diminished greatly by someone with a bullying
attitude, which can also put the child far behind in their schooling and abilities to cope.
In fact, we all have heard of youth who have chosen suicide rather than face the demons
in their life. If you or an organization you know of are interested in sponsoring this
worthwhile program go to website: bullyinghurts.com or contact Starvin’ Marvin at 307-
254-0603.
Starvin’ Marvin Nash is the comic relief on Saturday nights at Cowtown, New
Jersey, located in Woodstown. Cowtown has been putting on summer rodeos for over
sixty years. If you can, be sure and attend the July 24th rodeo at Cowtown, New Jersey,
and see barrelman Starvin’ Marvin arrive in the arena at the end of the BULLYING
HURTS campaign. For information regarding the evening rodeo call: 856-769-3200.
