The
following is more information on who the Rodeo Cowboy Alumni are and
what they do:
Each
year the Rodeo Cowboy Alumni work to promote the growth and preservation
of rodeo.
One
of their permanent projects of this
nonprofit organization are the LANE FROST MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
and the JOHN R HATLEY MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP . These
scholarships are awarded to two high school seniors who have
participated in high school rodeos and have made it to the finals.
The National High School Rodeo Association selection committee screens
applicants and bases their decisions on factors which include grade
point average, college enrollment, and financial need The
2007 scholarships were presented this summer at the National High School
Finals Rodeo. This years recipients
were:
Robert
Munson, of Sandwich
Illinois
, is the recipient of the 2007 Lane Frost Memorial Scholarship.
Robert is attending school at
Kansas
State
University
. He plans on majoring in
Veterinary Medicine. He
graduated from
Sandwich
High School
with a GPA of 3.96. Robert
competed in Calf Roping, Team Roping and Boys Cutting.
He made the High Honor Roll for 4 years.
He was also the 2006-2007 National Student President of the
National High School Rodeo Association.
He qualified for the National High School Finals Rodeo 2004-2007.
He organized a nationwide relief effort for Hurricane Katrina victims
which raised over $25,000 within the NHSRA.
Robert’s list of awards, accomplishments, and civic activity
fills up 2 sheets of paper. We
look forward to working with Robert the next four years.
Tyler
Wines,
of Gooding
Idaho
, is the recipient of the 2207 John R Hatley Memorial Scholarship.
Tyler
is attending The University of Montana Western in Dillon Montana. He
plans on pursuing a medical career.
He graduated from
Gooding
High School
with a 3.98 GPA.
Tyler
competed in Tie-down Roping, Team Roping, Steer Wrestling and Boy’s
Cutting. He was
Student Body President, qualified for the National High School
Rodeo 2 times, was a member of the National
Honor Society, and was United Dairyman of Idaho Distinguished Student.
When not
keeping busy with school and rodeo,
Tyler
also likes Basketball, Football, Snow Skiing, and Track.
Tyler
wrote a nice thank you note to the membership- “Thank you for choosing
me as the recipient of the John R Hatley Memorial Scholarship.
The support you give high school rodeo and its contestants is
amazing.”
