Horses fine, one rider injured in Reno Rodeo collision
[Jun. 26, 2008] The start of the Reno Rodeo was delayed for about 15 minutes tonight when the horses of two members of the Reno Rodeo Flag Girls Drill Team collided in the middle of the arena.

 

Rhonda Barnes and Sherry Davis were knocked from their horses and Davis's horse, Love, also went down.

After several minutes, Davis was able to get to her feet.
 
The Reno Rodeo Volunteers
[Jun. 26, 2008] RENO — They range in age from 14 to the mid-50s, and an evening performance at the Reno Rodeo never starts without them. Meet the 60 women — all volunteers — who make up the drill and flag team. It’s a labor of love, and has to be, because it’s a lot of work for no pay.
 
Cowboys carpool to defray gas cost
[Jun. 26, 2008] 50 years ago in search of the next big payday at rodeos, they did so in pickups and small horse trailers for small purses.

Today, winning cowboys can afford a few luxuries, with first-place prize money reaching more than $10,000. Diesel trucks that cost $25,000 and $30,000 horse trailers are fixtures in rodeo parking lots.

Rodeo world loses legendary announcer - Tom Hadley
[Jun. 4, 2008] Tom Hadley announced three generations of rodeo cowboys and cowgirls in 33 states and four countries. Along the way, he announced the National Finals Rodeo in 1971, 1973 and 1982. He was selected to the ProRodeo Hall of Fame in Colorado Springs, Colo., in 2001. A founding member of the National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association, he was the organization's first steer wrestling champion in 1949, representing New Mexico A&M.

Rodeo offers family-oriented event for Memorial Day celebration
[May 24, 2008] ...members of the Air Force and the Professional Armed Forces Rodeo Association decided to put a little kick in their celebration with the Military Appreciation Day Rodeo. The Saturday event included a chute doggin’ shootout, greased pig race, and bull riding at East Milton Recreational Park. Rob Griffee and Steve Haven, both members of the Air Force and the Rodeo Association, decided to have the event for the first time to give people, especially those who serve in the military, an alternative place to congregate for the holiday weekend.
