Annual Cody rodeo starts up[Jun. 1, 2007] CODY, Wyo. - Marking its 70th consecutive year, the Cody Nite Rodeo began a new season Friday offering traditional favorites and new attractions.
The first-ever Xtreme Bulls event in Cody is set for June 30, and eight-time world champion bullrider Donnie Gay will serve as grand marshal for the Fourth of July Stampede Parade.
Gov. Crist whacks rodeo funds[May 25, 2007] When Gov. Crist signed the state's budget Thursday, he vetoed a long list of funding requests, including the $1 million matching grant the Arcadia Rodeo Association had hoped for to help fund the rodeo's relocation.
Fantasy rodeo is launched[May 17, 2007] The American Royal's Web site promotes the online league and a new local rodeo circuit.
Rodeo goes on for tornado victims[May 17, 2007] The Greensburg, Kan., native was shocked to see the town in the daylight the following day, and wondered if having the annual rodeo would be an option.
But in the rodeo business, the show must go on. Set for May 25 and 26, the 43rd Annual Greensburg Rodeo will go on as scheduled, and Greenleaf is making sure this show goes on for the Greensburg residents for free.
Women take on none traditional roles[May 1, 2007] There are plenty of women out there, acting as timers, secretaries and rodeo queens, but there are a handful of women who also thrive in other roles, roles typically seen as a "man''s job," such as stock contractor and chute boss.
ProRodeo Hall of Fame Announces Class of 2007[Apr. 20, 2007] The Class of 2007 includes 1986 World Saddle Bronc Riding Champion Bud Munroe; two-time World Champion Steer Roper Jim Davis; longtime Wrangler National Finals Rodeo Committeeman, former Las Vegas Events Chairman of the Board and South Point Hotel and Casino owner Michael Gaughan; Doug Corey, DVM, a longtime leader in rodeo industry animal welfare issues; three-time PRCA Clown of the Year Lecile Harris; late 1948 and '67 World Champion Team Roper Joe Glenn; late 1961 and 1966 World Champion Bull Rider Ronnie Rossen; late rodeo secretary Dorothy Apodaca; and three-time PRCA Bull of the Year Skoal's Pacific Bell.
