Rodeo rolls back to town, ‘Wild animals on a wild ride’ this weekend
[Sep. 2, 2009] This ain’t Matt Merritt’s first rodeo.

“I work kind of as a cheerleader to keep the crowd’s spirits up,” said Merritt, a rodeo clown based in Olin, N.C.
 
2009 RODEO CLOWN REUNION TO BE HELD AT DEADWOOD
[Jul. 16, 2009] The 2009 Rodeo Clown Reunion will be held in Deadwood, South Dakota, during the 87th annual Days of ‘76, July 23rd through the 25th. This event has again been chosen as the PRCA Midsize Rodeo of 2008. This honor has been bestowed on this rodeo numerous times for their consistency in having a top flight rodeo. There will be four performances (two on the 25th) and the honorees of the Reunion will be present to sign autographs and talk with fans at each performance. They will also participate in two parades down the main street of Deadwood on Friday at 1:30 PM and Saturday morning at 10 AM. By Gail Woerner

[Jul. 8, 2009] Contrary to what some may believe, rodeo clowning is serious business. Beneath the makeup, the wigs and the costumes are athletes whose job is to protect the bull riders. Rodeo fans will have several opportunities to hear first-hand stories from some of the best rodeo clowns from days gone. Thirty-nine rodeo clowns from 14 different states will gather for a national reunion of rodeo clowns during the 2009 Days of ’76 events in Deadwood, July 21-25. By Cindy Card Buchholz
 
Days of '76 Rodeo to Feature Clown Reunion
[Jun. 22, 2009] DEADWOOD (6/22/2009) – The laugh-getters and bullfighters of yesteryear are gathering for their annual reunion during the 2009 Days of ’76 events in Deadwood, July 21-25. Rodeo clowns from 14 states will gather in Deadwood to be honored for their years in the arena entertaining rodeo audiences and saving bull riders from serious injury.

“I’ve seen your wife, she’s not so fat. Where is she sitting,” asks the inquisitive announcer?

“She’s in the bleachers, sitting in seats 12, 13, and 14,” the funnyman answers!

Cattlemen’s PCA rodeo features top rodeo clown
[May 21, 2009] Troy, AL - A rodeo without a clown is like a day without sunshine.

The rodeo clown is a main attraction for kids of all ages. For that reason, the Pike County Cattlemen’s Association puts on its collective thinking cap each year to make sure that their Professional Cowboy Association Championship Rodeo has one of the best professional rodeo clowns in the business.

Wes Curtis Rodeo Clown and Arties Dies at 88
[Apr. 26, 2009] Wes Curtis, age 88, PRCA rodeo clown from 1948 until 1968, died April 19th, in Sutherlin, Oregon. He was born to Ernest and Honor Leone Curtis in Denver, Colorado, March 16, 1921. Wes joined the Cowboy’s Turtle Association and was a lifetime member of the Professional Rodeo Cowboy Association (PRCA). He started his rodeo career riding in all three roughstock events. Wes served in the United States Navy from November, 1942 and was honorably discharged in September, 1946. In 1948 Wes became a rodeo clown and bullfighter. He had many acts and when he hung up his matador’s cape which he used when bullfighting it was 1968 By Gail Woerner

But one month removed from his own near-cardiac catastrophe, the renowned rodeo clown from Choteau is back to himself all right.
 
Seven-time World Champion Dan Mortensen heads ProRodeo Hall of Fame induction class
[Apr. 1, 2009] Dan Mortensen, of Billings, Mont., the late all-around cowboy Leonard Ward of Talent, Ore., bull rider Ted Nuce of Stephenville, Texas, and steer roper Walt Arnold of Silverton, Texas, were all voted in by the ProRodeo Hall of Fame Selection Committee during meetings at the Hall of Fame March 30, along with the late Erv Korkow (stock contractor) of Canning, S.D., and all-around hand Ace Berry (lifetime achievement) of Oakdale, Calif.
