Calgary, ALBERTA – July 12, 2010 – The first four performances of the Calgary Stampede are complete with 24 talented athletes already looking forward to Showdown Sunday.

At the conclusion of Pool A, Ryan Jarrett, from Comanche, Okla., is the big money winner. Jarrett placed in all four rounds of tie-down roping to win $21,000 here so far. The top four money earners in each of the events advances to the finals next Sunday.

There are two pools of competition containing 10 contestants each in bareback riding, steer wrestling, saddle bronc riding, tie-down roping, women’s barrel racing and bull riding. The six contestants from each pool who don’t earn enough to qualify for the finals still have an opportunity to advance through Saturday’s Wild Card. The two athletes in each event with the fastest time or highest score will compete in the finals.

The finals will see 10 athletes competing in each event. From there, the top four advance to the Showdown Round where the fastest times and highest scores earn the coveted $100,000 check and opportunity to be a Calgary Stampede champion.

The bareback riding has three Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association (PRCA) World Champions advancing that have earned a total of seven gold buckles. Will Lowe, from Canyon, Texas is a three-time champion who earned $17,000 here. Ryan Gray PRCA standings leader from Petersburg, Texas, is second with $12,500.

The 2004 champion Kelly Timbermam from Mills, Wyo., is third with $10,500. Bobby Mote, who also has three world titles rounds out the qualifiers. Mote, from Culver, Ore., earned $9,750.

In saddle bronc riding, Stampede rookie Wade Sundell leads the qualifiers with $12,000. The $100,000 winner from last year, Taos Muncy is tied for second with his brother-in-law, Cody Taton. They both make their homes at Corona, N.M.
