Red Bluff, CA - No matter the partner, Daniel Green is finding his way to the winner’s circle at Wrangler ProRodeo Tour events in his home state of California.

One week after Green and Todd Hampton took top honors at the Grand National Rodeo in San Francisco, Green, of Oakdale, joined forces with Dugan Kelly of Paso Robles, Calif., to take the three-head average title at the Red Bluff Round-Up.

Green, a 10-time Wrangler National Finals Rodeo qualifier, and Kelly, who has reached the world’s premier rodeo four times as well, roped three steers in 18.6 seconds to win the overall title by nearly two seconds. Each earned $3,415.

While Green has captured two Wrangler Tour events, he still trails nine-time Wrangler NFR tie-down roper Stran Smith, who won the Red Bluff average title by roping and tying three calves in 28.4 seconds, good for $3,318. Smith, of Childress, Texas, also won average titles at the Wrangler ProRodeo Tour stops at the San Angelo (Texas) Stock Show and Rodeo and Rodeo Austin (Texas).

On the other end of the arena, saddle bronc riders from South Dakota shared the Red Bluff title. Chad Ferley, the 2006 world champion from Oelrichs, and Louie Brunson, of Interior, each recorded 83-point rides and earned $6,533. In steer wrestling, four-time Wrangler NFR qualifier Trevor Knowles of Mount Vernon, Ore., topped the field. Knowles downed three steers in 19.9 seconds to win the title and $4,674.

Bareback rider Ryan Gray of Cheney, Wash., topped the Red Bluff leaderboard after an 85-point ride aboard Rosser Rodeo’s Kattle Klare, while Ellensburg, Wash., bull rider Allen Helmuth claimed victory and $6,236 after an 88-point ride on Flying U Rodeo’s Water Works.

Helmuth’s ride wasn’t the only drama of the bull riding event. On Sunday, a bull jumped a fence and ended up in the east grandstands of the Tehama District Fairgrounds, injuring six, but none seriously. The bull was not injured.
