COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Students in Wyoming and from neighboring states will have the opportunity to learn about rodeo for free this summer when the PRCA Championship Rodeo Camp series makes a stop in Cody, Wyo.

The introductory roughstock day camp will be held June 10-11 at the Cody Stampede Park. The camp is free of charge and open to all ages and all levels of experience. The focus of the camp is to teach correct spurring techniques, chute and arena procedures, livestock safety and an introduction to PRCA business.

The camp is being organized by the PRCA’s Industry Outreach Department, along with Maury Tate of Mo Betta Rodeo Company.

“Some cowboys may not have a parent or older sibling with ProRodeo experience and may not have access to instruction,” said Cindy Schonholtz, industry outreach director. “We want to provide future ProRodeo athletes free opportunities to learn how to properly use rodeo equipment.”

Bobby Mote, two-time World Champion Bareback Rider, is a firm believer in the importance of rodeo education through camps, clinics and schools.

“If you don’t get good instruction from the beginning, you are sure enough going to take a lot of back roads, and that is what slows you down,” said Mote, who hosts bareback riding schools each year.

"Any camp will help people who want to get better. By being a free camp, it gives everyone the opportunity to come out and try,” Tate said. “A lot of kids don't have the funding to attend a rodeo school, but they can attend a day camp and leave wanting to learn more.”
