Peek doubles up in Laughlin

One week after his historic tie-down roping win at RodeoHouston, Josh Peek kept it going by earning a pair of victories at the Laughlin (Nev.) River Stampede. Peek, of Pueblo, Colo., earned $6,892 in corralling the rodeo’s all-around and tie-down roping titles.

Peek, whose Houston earnings a week ago pushed him from 50th to first in the Crusher Rentals PRCA World Standings in tie-down roping, recorded a total time of 16.8 seconds on two head, good for the average title and $4,926. Peek also bagged $1,967 after winning the second round of steer wrestling with a time of 4.0 seconds.

The Laughlin River Stampede served as the seventh stop on the 26-city Wrangler ProRodeo Tour. At the conclusion of the 26th rodeo, the top 35 contestants in total Tour points and the “wild card,” event champions from the Dodge National Circuit Finals Rodeo, will move on to the first Tour Championship event, Aug. 12-16 in Caldwell, Idaho. From there, the field will be trimmed to a single champion after the three subsequent playoff events in Puyallup, Wash.; Omaha, Neb.; and Dallas.

Saddle bronc rider Bradley Harter, of Weatherford, Texas, defended his Laughlin title, earning $5,145 after his 83-point ride on Bar T Rodeo’s Little Squaw. He finished one point ahead of Anthony Bello of Oakley, Utah, and two better than Ryan Mapston of Belt, Mont.

Reigning and two-time World Champion Bareback Rider Bobby Mote topped a remarkably talented field in Laughlin. Mote scored 83 points on Bar T Rodeo’s Little Sister, topping Jerad Schlegal of Burns, Colo., and Mac Erickson of Almo, Idaho, by one point. Mote earned $5,095 for his ride. The nine bareback riders who earned checks were separated by only three points.

All-around cowboy Cash Myers earned the steer wrestling title with a two-head time of 9.1 seconds, more than a second better than runner-up T.W. Parker of Wendell, Idaho. Myers, of Athens, Texas, earned $4,362 after winning the first round and placing seventh in the second round.

Arizona team ropers Derrick Begay and Victor Aros claimed the average title in Laughlin, roping two steers in 9.2 seconds. Begay, of Seba Dalkai, and Aros, of Tucson, each earned $3,547.

In bull riding, Shawn Proctor rode Bar T Rodeo’s Austin for 84 points, good for the overall title and $5,736.
