Nancy Kay Vold, part of one of Pro Rodeos most legendary families, died on September 26 due to complications from diabetes. She was 48. Nancy was born on Sept. 3, 1960 in Phoenix, Ariz. She grew up in Colorado, attending schools in Fowler and Pueblo. Nancy lived the majority of her life in Texas and truly loved it.
Nancy loved everything about rodeo. In her earlier years, she enjoyed riding in rodeo openings. Nancy was selected as a timer for the National Finals Rodeo in 1989 and for the National Finals Steer Roping in 2002. Nancy, who joined the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association in 1981, was very proud of being among the youngest Gold Card members.
Nancy loved bucking horses and bulls and proudly wore the buckle of famed bucking horse, Rusty, of the Harry Vold Rodeo Company string that earned Saddle Bronc Riding Bucking Horse of the Year honors in 1981.
She struggled valiantly with her illness, but did not miss a single performance of the final rodeo she saw – the Colorado State Fair & Rodeo held in Pueblo, Colo., in August.
She is survived by her children: Jason Sachse of Granbury, Texas, and Ashley Henderson of Burleson, Texas. Parents Karen (Harry Vold), Roy (Virginia) Honeycutt, and brothers and sisters Wayne Vold, Dona Vold Larsen, Doug Vold, Darce Vold, Kirsten Vold, Jerry Honeycutt, Scott Honeycutt and Janet Honeycutt.
Funeral arrangements are being handled by the Griffy Family Funeral Home in Fowler, Colo. A private family burial is scheduled.
To celebrate Nancy’s life, all of her family and friends are invited to attend a memorial service at 1 p.m. (Thursday) Oct. 2 at the Fowler (Colo.) Christian Church.
In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations be sent to the Parkview Diabetes Care Center, located at 400 W. 16 Street, Pueblo, CO 81
