IWith one episode remaining, cowboy brothers Jet and Cord McCoy are among the final three competitors on the CBS-TV reality series “The Amazing Race.”
The McCoys, ranch-raised cowboys from Tupelo, Okla., have won four of the 11 legs of the race around the world. They finished the 11th episode in second place, just behind the dating models, Brent Horne and Caite Upton.
“I feel like we have a good chance to win the million dollars,” said Cord, one of the fan favorites on the Professional Bull Riders tour.
When asked by Jet about winning the buckle that goes to champion cowboys, Cord said, “I’ll have one made.”
The teams started in China at the Shanghai Science and Technology Museum and had to make their way to the Garden Bridge. That’s where they received their first clue as to the episode’s first road block at the Longhua Temple.
The McCoys started first after winning the 10th leg of the race, but were passed en route to the temple by Horne and Upton. The brothers struggled to find the metro station, while the models made way by bus and reached the destination first. Inside the temple, one member from each team had to count the golden statues.
When Upton miscounted twice, Jet jumped in for the McCoys and got the right figure on the first try.
“There was no reason for me to get in a hurry and have to wait 10 minutes to count again,” Jet said, referring to the time penalty that would be incurred for miscounting.
“The cowboys are definitely a team who finish tasks very quickly,” Horne said.
They made their way from the temple to the garden district via motorcycles with sidecars.
“This motorcycle ride through Shanghai, China, is kind of new for a country boy like me,” Cord said.
The teams’ next task involved searching through a store full of figurines for pieces that had their names attached. The models finished just ahead of the cowboys, and the two teams raced to the finish line at the Riverside Promenade.
“If we can get a cab before them, we might beat them,” Jet said.
It didn’t help. Once at the promenade, the teams searched a little while before finding the finish line. The other brother tandem, Jordan and Dan Pious, finished third, leaving the detective team of Michael Naylor and Louie Stravato eliminated.In less than a week, the world will find out if the cowboy brothers win the race around the world for $1 million.
