Weatherford's Murphy working to defend title[Jan. 4, 2008] Carrying the moniker of the "world's toughest cowboy” can be kind of daunting. Especially in the world of rodeo. Cowboys ride into RBC Center[Jan. 4, 2008] When Bandy Murphy, 23, gets on the back of a bull, the animal usually has about a 1,600-pound advantage. The cowboy from Weatherford, Okla., who stands 5 feet 9 and weighs 160 pounds, managed to stay on bulls and broncos long enough last year to win the Toughest Cowboy championship. The rodeo tour tests competitors in three disciplines -- bareback riding, saddle bronc riding and bull riding.

The Finals will feature minimum prize money of $400,000 and as much as $500,000.
Fresh-faced world champ may be ready to walk with big boys[Dec. 24, 2007] Saddle bronc riding is billed as pro rodeo's classic event and there's a fresh-faced world champion who just might walk in the boot steps of the sport's legends. Meet 20-year-old Taos Muncy, an Oklahoma Panhandle State student who spurred his way to his first world title after earning $91,754 at the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo to finish the year with $201,132.
