CPRA press release

CALGARY, ALTA. – The Canadian Professional Rodeo Association (CPRA) is counting down to the 36th annual Canadian Finals Rodeo (CFR), and more than 90,000 rodeo fans are expected at Rexall Place in Edmonton, Alta. for the six performance event, which runs from November 11 to 15.

One hundred and eight CFR contestants earned their spot at the finals by finishing at the top of the Canadian standings in their events, and attending at least 15 rodeos during the regular season, and many are among some of the best rodeo athletes in the world.

Joining them are the season’s best broncs, bulls and bullfighters; and, with more than $1.274 million in prize money up for grabs, anything is bound to happen.

The first CFR was held in 1974, and has been held at Rexall Place since 1975. A joint function by the CPRA and Northlands, it was recently announced that a contract extension will keep the CFR in Edmonton until 2016.

“We have worked with Northlands for many years and have really found our home in Edmonton. The team always puts on a great show and our athletes look forward to the event all year,” said CPRA president Dale Leschiutta at a press conference last week.

“We are delighted to continue our excellent working relationship with CPRA and keep CFR in Edmonton long term,” added Northlands President Ken Knowles. “The event provides significant economic impact to the City (of Edmonton) and an incredible amount of excitement for rodeo fans from all over.”
