Shane Proctor splits win at Greeley (Colo.) Xtreme Bulls

Powell, Wyo. –2008 Toughest Cowboy Shane Proctor has been staying busy since he won Jäger Ranch at the end of February. Most recently he showed his talent at the PRCA Xtreme Bulls Tour stop in Greeley, Colo.

Proctor, who currently hangs his hat in Powell, Wyo., but owns a ranch just outside of Pueblo, Colo., was crowned the co-champion of the Division 2 Xtreme Bulls qualifying event. With a two head score of 170 points, he finished in a tie with Cooper Kanngiesser of Zenda, Kan., and ahead of 2000 PRCA World Champion Cody Hancock and reigning PRCA World Champion Wesley Silcox.

“It felt really good to get the win and the paycheck,” said Proctor, who picked up checks totaling $3,500. “Everything just seemed to come together for me at the right time and right place.”

In the first round (long go) Proctor was matched against Beutler and Son Rodeo’s #469. He rode him for 84 points, placing him in a tie for seventh in the round. With the score he advanced to the final round where he drew a Burns Rodeo bull by the name of Knothead. The stats on this bull were pretty impressive as no one had ridden this bull within the past five years and 31 tries. According to probullstats.com the longest anyone has stayed on him this year was 6.63 seconds, which was Cameron Castleberry at the Dodge Xtreme Bulls stop in San Antonio, Texas, in February.

Proctor had his work cut-out for him but 23-year old cowboy was ready for it. Proctor rode the bull for the full eight seconds and received a score of 86 points giving him a two head score of 170 points and a share of first place.

“The bull I had in the short round had never been ridden, so he was very much an eliminator type bull,” said Proctor. “I just tried to ride him jump for jump and not get ahead of him and it worked out for me. It was a great feeling and gave me some momentum heading into the Fourth of July run or events.”

Proctor plans to hit several PBR Challenger events over the Fourth of July and will be squeezing in some PRCA events along the way including the PRCA rodeo in Colorado Springs, Colo., known as the Pikes Peak or Bust Rodeo. He will compete there on July 9.
