SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (September 19, 2010) - It looks like everyone close to the lead in this event came out pretty well in the draw today, and we should see a close race going into the short round. There were only 11 bulls ridden in each of the first two rounds, but we should see more than that today.
Round 3 Matchups
Aaron Roy on 621 Outta Da Red:
Aaron got his bull ridden in Round 1, so he has one score on the board. He should be able to get another one here. Outta Da Red is ridden more often by right-handed guys. Roy actually had this bull in Cheyenne, Wyo., and bucked off, but it was on the best day Outta Da Red has ever had. He was marked 45 points.
Luke Snyder on 300 Foolish Pride:
This is a solid money bull for right-handed riders. For a guy with Snyder’s resume, this is supposed to be automatic.
J.B. Mauney on 563 Heebee Geebee:
Mauney seems to be making a move late in the season. He’s got a little tougher task today. Heebee Geebee has a little buckoff streak going – he’s thrown off his last six riders going back to March of this year. However, he hasn’t faced a rider of Mauney’s ability in that time.
Austin Meier on 31 Far West:
This bull is far from easy, but Meier is 2-for-2 on him. He was 90 on Far West at last year’s World Finals, and he was 89.5 on him in Bastrop, Texas, at a Touring Pro event in June of 2009. Valdiron de Oliveira is the only person who has made the whistle on Far West recently, and he’s done it twice this summer.
Cody Campbell on 514 Top Notch:
Campbell doesn’t have a score this weekend, but he’s got the best bull in this round. Campbell rode Top Notch way back in September of 2008, but this is a better bull now.
Jason O’Hearn on -53 Too Tall:
O’Hearn is having a good event. He’s within five points of the lead here, and he’s got a bull he should be able to ride. Too Tall favors right-handed riders a little, but he is still over 60 percent against them.
Shane Proctor on 615B Top Diamond:
This is the kind of bull riders love. He tends to be worth a lot of points, but not very hard to ride. He’s been ridden in 10 out of 19 career attempts, and four out of five times by elite-level riders.
Caleb Sanderson on 514 Super Hou:
Sanderson has been off the radar for the most part this weekend, but he is close to the lead after riding both his bulls so far. This is an outstanding draw for him. I’ve been picking everyone who draws this bull since I saw him with Ben Jones in Nashville, Tenn. That kind of trip is what Sanderson needs in order to keep the TV commentators from talking about how he is able to make himself small on bulls. Sanderson is a tall guy, but if Super Hou has the trip he had with Jones, he will fit a tall rider very well.
Mike Lee on 55 Cricket:
Cricket threw Renato Nunes off in the bonus round last night, but he’s still been ridden in three out of five career appearances.
Chris Shivers on 23S Stretch Armstrong:
Not an easy bull. Stretch Armstrong is weakest against elite-level riders, and Shivers is one.
Beau Hill on 569 Mission Accomplished:
Mission Accomplished threw McKennon Wimberly off last night in the bonus round, but every healthy left-handed rider is supposed to get a score on this bull.
Pistol Robinson on 427 Sooner Shaker:
One of the most rider-friendly bulls in the PBR for left-handed guys, this bull has been ridden 12 out of 16 times by lefties.
Silvano Alves on 612B Insaniac:
Alves has five straight buckoffs now, which is uncharacteristic. This is the bull Austin Meier rode in the bonus round, and he should fit Alves pretty well.
