LAS VEGAS (October 22, 2010) - Officially, eight bulls are in the running for 2010 PBR World Champion Bull.

Unofficially, the race is down to three: Bushwacker, Bones and Major Payne.

Following the completion of Round 2 of the Built Ford Tough World Finals at the Thomas & Mack Center, Major Payne (Robinson, Bar None, Segs, Skyhawk Rugs & Red Knection) leads the standings with 45.5 points. Bones (Tom Teague Bucking Bulls) and Bushwacker (Moreno, Oliveira) are tied at 45.25.

“I think that’s all that’s left,” PBR Livestock Director Cody Lambert said.

Bushwacker’s out came Wednesday, because he’s also in the running for ABBI Classic Champion. Major Payne disposed of Cody Campbell in 2.3 seconds Thursday, and Bones put World Champion contender J.B. Mauney on the ground in 4 seconds.

Uncle Buck, who’s owned by 2010 PBR Stock Contractor of the Year Jeff Robinson, sits fourth with 45 points. He bucked off Luke Snyder in 2.7 seconds.

“Uncle Buck really did buck,” Lambert said. “Luke didn’t ride him far enough to show him very well.”

Highway 12 (Mesa Bucking Bulls) and Chicken on a Chain (Robinson, Tedesco & Larry the Cable Guy) are tied for fifth (44 points). Big Tex (Dakota Rodeo, Berger & Struve) is seventh (43.75 points) and Voodoo Child (Robinson, Beutler, Bar None, McNeely & Broken N-N) is eighth (43.5).

“It’s kind of funny what people might have thought was the frontrunner all year long, Voodoo Child, pulled the stunt he did tonight, kind of taking off,” Versus announcer and stock contractor J.W. Hart said. “I thought Big Tex kind of took off, and I think Bones kind of took off, also. I thought Bones was the one with the best chance that did the worst tonight. Bushwacker looked like himself [Wednesday], maybe not his best day, but a really good day.

“The one that surprises me, though, is Major Payne. I thought this bull just doesn’t have the wow factor to pull it off, but as it stands right now – if it was over today – he’d be the winner. He really had a good day today. He’s going to be the same way Sunday, so I don’t know, it’s busted wide open: Bushwacker or Major Payne, [and] they scored Bones really good tonight even though he did take off.

“So it’s a three-bull race now.”
