LAS VEGAS (October 21, 2010) - He was the first to go. The question is, will he be first in show?

Bushwacker began his assault on the PBR record books Wednesday by winning the long round of the ABBI Classic Championship during Round 1 of the Built Ford Tough World Finals. The championship round for these 3- and 4-year-old bulls will be during Saturday’s performance. The winning bull’s owner receives $250,000.

Bushwacker’s out Wednesday was also his first in the World Champion Bull contest. He is trying to become the first bull to win both titles in the same season.

“I’m hoping we’ll be the first,” said Julio Moreno of Elk Grove, Calif., who co-owns Bushwacker with Richard Oliveira. Moreno is also one of the two pick-up men at the World Finals.

Bushwacker’s four-judge bull score added up 90.75 points. Bad Blake (Lightning C Cattle Co.) was second (89), while Priceless (D&H Cattle Co. / L&E Bulls) and Moon (Jackson, Holmes, Robinson & Baker) tied for third (88.25). Wine Hu (Lightning C / PB&J) rounded out the top 5 with 88 points.

“I really liked [Bushwacker’s] trip last night,” Moreno said. “I thought we could have gotten a little more, but I’m not complaining – we won it.”

“I thought he was very good,” PBR Livestock Director Cody Lambert said. “It wasn’t the best trip I’ve seen him have, but it was plenty good. I thought Moon was actually the best bull. On my score sheet I thought Moon was the best bull tonight. That’s the one I scored the highest. I had Bushwacker tied for second [and] third with Priceless.”

The bull with the highest aggregate score following Saturday’s competition will be 2010 ABBI Classic Champion.

The other seven competitors in the World Champion Bull contest compete tonight. They include Bones (Tom Teague Bucking Bulls), Chicken on a Chain (Robinson, Tedesco & Larry the Cable Guy), Voodoo Child (Robinson, Beutler, Bar None, McNeely & Broken N-N), Major Payne (Robinson, Bar None, Segs, Skyhawk Rugs & Red Knection), Highway 12 (Mesa Bucking Bulls), Big Tex (Dakota Rodeo, Berger & Struve) and Uncle Buck (Jeff Robinson).

Chicken on a Chain earned the first World Champion Bull competition that was contested in Las Vegas in 2007. Bones won it the following year. Those were both three-round events. The owner of the World Champion Bull receives $20,000 and a Big Tex trailer.

The ABBI Futurity Finals for 2-year-old bulls is at the Hard Rock Hotel PBR Fan Zone arena Friday at 10 a.m. The field is made up of the Top 30 bulls from a qualifier held in Stephenville, Texas, on Oct. 1-2.
