Dave Bakke: Rodeo clown gets his worst injury while helping bull
[Apr. 5, 2009] Last Monday, Roger wasn’t riding this bull or luring it away from a fallen cowboy. He was trying to help it.

Roger was working at Edgewood. The bull had a sore foot. Roger was working on the bull’s foot when, his father said, Roger used an electric prod to control the animal.

“The bull got him down,” says Ray (better known by his nickname, “Punk”). “It pushed him through a couple of fences.”

Roger was later transported by air from Passavant Hospital in Jacksonville to St. John’s trauma unit. Since then, Roger has been slipping in and out of consciousness and is breathing with the aid of a ventilator. His family says Roger’s injuries include a collapsed lung, broken ribs and severe stomach and kidney injuries. He also contracted pneumonia while in intensive care.
