SAN ANTONIO, Texas ---With just one more round left in the second bracket of competition left at the San Antonio Stock Show Rodeo, several contestants are making plans to be back here for the semi-finals.
Among those is reigning world champion tie-down roper and all-around cowboy Trevor Brazile from Decatur, Texas. Brazile didn’t place in the first round of tie-down roping but won the second and third rounds and now leads the money staindings with $4,148. In the first and second round, he rode his buckskin horse Jaguar then switched to Texaco in the third. His 7.0-second run on Jaguar that earned him $2,074 on Tuesday is the fastest of the rodeo here so far and is just two-tenths off of the AT&T Center arena record.
It’s no surprise to Brazile’s fans to see him be almost as fast on Texaco. They stopped the clock in 7.2 second Wednesday adding another $2,074 to his earnings. Brazile made history at the Fort Worth Stock Show horse show when he competed on Texaco without a bridle and stopped the clock in 7.8 seconds.
“We depend on our horses day in and day out,” Brazile said. “I’m lucky to have some great ones and I take a lot of pride in that. When I can win two rounds on two different horses, it just confirms how important they are.”
Sydni Blanchard from Albuquerque, N.M., also won her second consecutive round here in the barrel race. She stopped the clock in 14.09 seconds and added $2,074 to her earnings. She also has a total of $4,148.
The second bracket of competition will be wrap-up with Thursday night’s rodeo performance which begins at 7 p.m. The top five money winners in each event will be determined at that time and will be advancing to the semi-finals.
