Clovis, Corpus Christi host stops this weekend on Wrangler Tour
The 2008 Wrangler ProRodeo Tour rages on this weekend with a pair of stops separated by some 1,700 miles. Action starts April 24th when the Buc Days Pro Rodeo gets under way in Corpus Christi, Texas, and continues with daily performances through April 27th. On April 25th, the 94th Annual Clovis (Calif.) Rodeo starts its three-performance weekend run.
Corpus Christi and Clovis mark the 11th and 12th stops on the 2008 Wrangler ProRodeo Tour. Cowboys will not only compete for a share of the lucrative purses, but points that apply toward the Wrangler ProRodeo Tour standings and entry into the Ariat Playoffs series, an exciting four-rodeo showdown starting in August in Caldwell, Idaho.
Corpus Christi, a city of nearly 300,000 located on the south Texas coast, made its Wrangler ProRodeo Tour debut in 2007. The four-performance rodeo at the American Bank Center features a 7:30 p.m. (CT) performance the first three nights, followed by a 2 p.m. matinee for the final performance. Frontier Rodeo Company and Rafter G Rodeo Company are providing livestock for the rodeo, which is offering $11,000 added money in each event.
Clovis, which lies adjacent to the larger city of Fresno, is located about halfway between San Francisco and Los Angeles in the agriculturally rich San Joaquin Valley. Clovis has a population of nearly 90,000, while close to 500,000 reside in nearby Fresno. Action in the Clovis Rodeo Arena starts at 5:30 p.m. PT on April 25. The other two shows are matinees, starting at 2 p.m. each day. Growney Brothers Rodeo and Burch Rodeo are bringing their livestock for the event, which is offering $24,000 added money for team ropers and $12,000 for all other events.
After this weekend, the Wrangler Tour moves to Guymon, Oklahoma. for stop No. 13. Action from the Oklahoma Panhandle starts on May 2.
