SAN ANTONIO, Texas ---Billy Etbauer knows all about winning. The veteran rodeo competitor has been to 21 Wrangler National Finals Rodeo and may well be headed to his 22nd.

Etbauer tied for first in the third round of saddle bronc riding in the third bracket at the San Antonio Stock Show Rodeo with an 87-point ride on Calgary Stampede’s legendary horse, Fearless Warrior. Etbauer shared the win with Shaun Stroh from Dickinson, N.D.

That 87 earned him $1815 and a spot in the semi-finals where he competed on Thursday night. He bettered his score and won enough money to qualify for Saturday night’s finals with a 90-point effort on Kesler Rodeo’s horse named Sandcastle.

“I was just glad to make the whistle,” Etbauer said. “I had a horse that bucked good, I was just glad to be there when the whistle blew.”

Etbauer earned $2,074 for that ride giving him a total of $3,889. The top six from the semi-finals advance to the finals and he finished in fifth place.

Luke Branquinho continued his winning streak here. The Los Alamos, Calif., resident won the semi-finals with a 3.5 second run. This is his third straight win and third check for $2,074. He also placed second in the first round in his bracket. His total earnings of $7,778 are the highest of any contestant here so far.

Ryan Jarrett, the 2005 all-around champion cowboy in the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association won the tie-down roping on Thursday night advancing him to the finals. Coming into the performance he had won $2,593 so had to get a check to have a chance at being in the top six. Jarrett not only won a check, he won the first place check and qualified for the finals in third place.

The second performance of the semi-finals will be Friday night starting at 7:30.
