DENVER – The 2008 World’s Toughest Rodeo featuring Toughest Cowboy™ presented by Jägermeister busts out of the chutes with its first stop in Kansas City this week on Fox Sports Net (FSN). Twelve cowboys will gather at the Sprint Center in Kansas City and begin their quest for the Toughest Cowboy title and a shot at winning the deed to Jäger Ranch.
Fans can watch each exciting episode of Toughest Cowboy weekly on several FSN affiliates in primetime (day and time depend on each affiliate) and at midnight every Saturday nationwide, please consult local listings. Each show will take fans into the heart of the action to savor the triumph, suffer the anguish and share the intensity of the ultimate challenge that is Toughest Cowboy.
Rodeo is among the fastest growing sports in America, and Toughest Cowboy presented by Jägermeister is revolutionizing the sport by introducing an exciting and innovative format to new audiences in venues across the United States. Unlike other rodeos where riders usually compete in just one discipline, Toughest Cowboy is an unprecedented test of endurance as all competitors must ride in three disciplines in one night (Bareback Riding, Bull Riding and Saddle Bronc Riding). The events feature head-to-head matches throughout the season leading to the playoffs and championship…ultimately crowning someone the Toughest Cowboy Champion.
Bandy Murphy of Weatherford, Okla., is the top ranked cowboy heading into the nine-stop series after winning the inaugural Toughest Cowboy title in 2007. Murphy will be matched against Logan Hodson of Telwka, British Columbia, but currently going to school at Oklahoma Panhandle State in Goodwell. The question is will Hodson rise above the first event jitters and the pressure of facing the champ or will Murphy, who is sponsored by The Home Depot this year, pickup where he left off in 2007?
Joining Murphy as returnees to the Tour this year are Nelson Tsosie of Farmington, N.M., representing the Navajo Nation, Clovis Crane of Lebanon, Pa., a standout jockey and wrestler in his earlier days, Trey Broussard, Estherwood, La., who finished second to Murphy in 2007, and Chad Eubank of Cleburne, Texas, who won the all-around title at the 2007 Cheyenne Frontier Days.
Fans should also be sure to keep an eye on the new talented riders who have joined this year’s Tour, especially 2006 PRCA World Champion Bull Rider B.J. Schumacher of Hillsboro, Wis., and Jared Green of Socorro, New Mexico.
Toughest Cowboy is a true test of endurance and strength and only the strong will survive. All 12 cowboys must come ready to ride both bulls and broncs every night eight seconds at a time. In the end, the competitor with the most series wins will be crowned the champion and become the new owner of Jäger ranch, which was made possible by Jägermeister and Red Creek Land.
